This represents one of the sectors in which Umbria can boast national and international excellence. Umbria’s landscape contributes to very high awareness of issues such as energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. The Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources was founded in 2010.

It is comprised of both SMEs and Large companies of various industrial fields and expertise. The University of Perugia also provides scientifical and technological support. The network of companies counts for more than 5000 employees, 2 billion Euro in revenue and manages over 20 R&D programs.

Its main goal is to encourage the growth of its companies throug product and process innovation in fields such as photovoltaic, biomasses, mini hydro, wind farms, sustainable architecture, hydrogen and smart grids.
